About Eastern Bays Catholic
Eastern Bays Catholic is a joint collaboration between two faith communities and parishes. We invite you to come visit and experience the inclusive, living faith of our two communities.
At Eastern Bays Catholic, we believe in the power of community and the strength of togetherness. Our parishes are not just a place of worship; it's a family, where everyone is valued and embraced.
We pride ourselves on our Community model of Church, where the parish is run by the people, for the people. This means that your voice, your talents, and your presence matter here.
No matter who you are or where you come from, we extend a warm and friendly welcome to you. Whether you're visiting for the first time, returning to our faith community, or have been a long-time parishioner, you are an essential part of our family.
We encourage everyone to get involved in all aspects of Parish life. Whether it's through volunteering, attending events, or participating in our ministries, there's a place for you here.
Everyone is welcome

Parish Priest, Mother of Perpetual Help and St Ignatius
About Mother of Perpetual Help Parish
Glendowie Parish began in 1965 as the district developed. The Redemptorist Priests came to the Auckland Diocese from Australia in 1950 and lived in the original Glendowie homestead next door to the Parish – a two storied house – until 1990 when the existing building was constructed.
Masses were held in the old house until 1972 when the Church was built. The Parish Centre followed in 1991 and the extensions were done in 2008.
There has been much social change in the last 25 years and a variety of worshippers comprise the local parish community.

About St Ignatius Parish
St Ignatius Parish began in 1921 from humble beginnings built by 12 families from many faiths.
The church is named after the patron saint of Father Doyle, the Parish Priest of Remuera. The church seated 100 parishioners and was officially opened on the 12th March 1922 by Bishop James Liston. The priests from Remuera visited weekly to say Mass.
In 1978 the small wooden Church was replaced with a new Church in the style of the times. Designed by architect Mr J. Hackshaw whom was also a parishioner. The coloured glass for the windows above the altar and entrance were designed and made by Colin McCahon.
The parish continues to grow and change as Auckland continues to grow and change.

Joint Parish Priest - Mother of Perpetual Help & St Ignatius

Our Parishes of St Ignatius & Mother of Perpetual Help are absolutely delighted to welcome Monsignor Bernard Kiely as our new Parish Priest. Bernard is no stranger to many in our community, and we are thrilled to have him join us in the Eastern Bays.
With Bernard’s deep faith, warm personality, and years of dedicated service, he will be a wonderful addition to our parish families. Bernard’s arrival marks an exciting new chapter for our faith communities, and we are looking forward to growing together under his pastoral care.
St Ignatius Parish Pastoral Council

I joined St Ignatius Parish in 2011 and live in Kohimarama with my husband and our two teenage children, Thomas and Sophie. Over the years, I’ve enjoyed contributing to parish life as a greeter, collector, commentator, and by helping with morning tea. I encourage others to get involved and experience our warm and welcoming community. I joined the Parish Council in 2022 and am honoured to have been appointed Chair in 2024.

My wife Emily and I joined St Ignatius Parish in 2020 with our two young children. As a Sacred Heart College old boy, I’m excited for my children to attend St Ignatius School and continue their education at Sacred Heart College and Baradene. I joined the Parish Council in 2024, and I feel privileged to contribute to our parish and support its mission of living out Christ’s teachings.

I’m committed to supporting Father John and serving our parish community in meaningful ways.

I’ve been a member of St Ignatius Parish for 35 years. My husband Michael and I have been married for 42 years, and our two children now live overseas. With a background in management and being semi-retired, I saw this as the ideal time to contribute further to our parish. I’m passionate about helping our community grow in a progressive and caring way.

I serve as the Director for all Tongan Chaplaincy Sunday Schools across 24 parishes, a role I cherish deeply. I’m dedicated to enriching the faith and community life of our parish through my cultural and spiritual leadership.

Sue Osorio
I moved to Auckland from the UK in 2010 and joined the St Ignatius parish community in 2016. I have two children and have always found our parish to be inclusive and supportive. This inspires me to give back through service. I’ve been a Minister of Children’s Liturgy, an RCIA sponsor, and am currently a Eucharistic Minister. I’m always open to hearing ideas for how we can further improve our Parish Council’s work.

I’ve been a member of St Ignatius Parish since 2008 when my wife Kate and I moved to Kohimarama from Wellington with our two children, who are now adults. Kate and I coordinate the Vigil Mass monthly Wine & Cheese gatherings, which we thoroughly enjoy. As a new member of the Parish Council in 2023, I’m looking forward to supporting our parish’s vision of being a Christian faith community that reflects God’s love for all.

I’m delighted to serve St Ignatius Parish as a Minister of the Word and as part of the RCIA programme. I’m married to Guy, and we have two adult children. I love our parish for its welcoming and inclusive nature, and I’m grateful to be part of this community. Supporting and fostering a space where everyone feels valued is something I’m passionate about.

Pip Block
I’ve been a member of St Ignatius Parish for over 20 years, having emigrated from the UK in 2002. As a Eucharistic Minister, I feel blessed to contribute to parish life. My husband Mike and I co-founded A1 Student Arrowsmith School, located next to the parish. I’ve returned to the Parish Council to offer my support wherever it’s needed and to help our community flourish.
